Creative Collaboration at Living Studios
Living Studios Gallery recently welcomed community members during the Corvallis Arts Walk for the opening of To Be Here, Doing This, an exhibition featuring work by Living Studios artists Sarah Hands and Philip Parsons, alongside artist and educator Cayla Skillin-Brauchle.
The exhibition brings together drawings, paintings, textiles, and cyanotypes that capture moments of movement, performance, and touch. Each colorful piece preserves the physical experience of creating—celebrating the actions, choices, and individual perspectives behind the finished artwork.
Visitors also had the opportunity to experience Calling the Mark, a collection of freeform flags created through a collaboration between Cayla and artists at Living Studios. During her time as a Yardwork Artist-in-Residence, Cayla worked with Living Studios artists to design playful flag forms and produce cyanotype prints exploring an important question: Whom and what do we want to represent?
The July 16 opening offered community members an opportunity to view the artwork, meet the artists, and speak with Cayla about the collaborative process. We are grateful to everyone who joined us at the Living Studios Gallery and helped celebrate the creativity of Sarah, Philip, Cayla, and the entire Living Studios community.
About Living Studios
Living Studios is an inclusive art program operated by Cornerstone Associates. The program supports artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they explore their creativity, develop new artistic skills, build confidence, and participate more fully in the local arts community.
Artists at Living Studios are encouraged to develop their own creative voices while experimenting with different materials and techniques. Through exhibitions, visiting artists, workshops, and community partnerships, participants have meaningful opportunities to share their work and be recognized as contributing artists.
Collaborations like To Be Here, Doing This show what can happen when artists are given the space, support, and opportunity to create alongside one another. These experiences help build connections between artists, families, educators, and the broader community while making our local arts scene more accessible and inclusive.
